Audio Description

Audio description (AD) provides access to film, television and pre-recorded video programming for the blind or visually impaired. AD is a narrition service that provides to the visually impaired what sighted people take for granted.

With concise and vivid descriptions of a programme’s visual elements, users are enabled to "see" colours, costumes, settings, facial expressions, gestures and actions. Description writers carefully select words that bring lasting images to life, using narration to create a visualisation of events. This not only enables those who are visually impaired to enjoy film, television or recorded programming, but also enhances the experience for all viewers. Descriptions are added during pauses in the dialogue within the programme without disrupting the original soundtrack. AD is available on television, video and DVD, and at cinemas, theatres, sports grounds and museums.

Our team of audio describers consists of university graduates who are fully trained in using Softel ADePT to provide high quality AD commentaries. As of 2009, ECI is proud to offer audio description services for the Greek Public Television (ERT), pioneering audio description in Greek. Through participation in symposia and conferences on AD, as well as direct communication with AD experts world-wide, we have compiled extensive AD guidelines and developed a template method for writing audio description scripts in any language you may require.
